Peru bus crash kills over 37 people
A tragic bus accident occurred in southern Peru early Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 37 individuals and injuring 13 more, after the bus collided with another vehicle and fell into a deep ravine along the banks of the Ocoña river. The bus had been traveling from Chala to Arequipa when the accident happened. Local leaders expressed their sympathies to the families affected, offering prayers for the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to the injured. Unfortunately, fatal bus accidents have been a recurring issue in Peru, prompting officials to take action such as banning buses from precarious routes like the infamous "Devil's Curve" following previous deadly incidents. In the past years, there have been several other bus accidents resulting in significant casualties, highlighting the ongoing challenges the country faces in road safety. As reported by the Death Information System, there were approximately 3,173 deaths from traffic accidents in Peru in 2024.
