PennDOT to reevaluate West View intersection after fatal accident

PennDOT has agreed to assess a section of West View after a recent fatal accident prompted concern from residents. Vicky Chang, a local resident, raised alarm about the dangerous conditions on Highland Avenue, where she witnessed multiple accidents, including one that tragically took the life of Addie Maiette. Other neighbors also shared stories of close calls and accidents, prompting the West View Borough Council to request a traffic study from PennDOT for the Highland and Cornell intersection. The study will potentially lead to safety improvements, including a three-way stop sign and a review of the entire corridor. This initiative follows previous safety improvements made in 2017 at another West View intersection. Mayor J.R. Henry emphasized the ongoing efforts to address safety concerns, with some residents hoping for a reduced speed limit to ensure the neighborhood's safety. The borough also plans to continue targeted enforcement and speed awareness patrols in the area.
