Parents Killed in Car Crash After Dropping Son at College

A tragedy struck a family from Cleveland, Ohio, as parents, Donald Nunney, 55, and Maria Nunney, 50, both educators in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, lost their lives in a car accident while on their way to meet their son at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The couple, along with their 14-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son, were involved in the crash when their minivan veered off the road, struck trees, and caught fire. Sadly, Donald and Maria Nunney passed away as a result of the accident. The younger children were hospitalized, with their daughter sustaining more serious injuries. Both children are now in stable condition and expected to recover. The Nunneys were highly respected educators, with Donald teaching language arts at Joseph M. Gallagher School and Maria working at Wilbur Wright PreK-8 School. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is providing additional counseling and support to help the affected school communities cope with the tragedy.
