Owner of Jersey Mike’s franchise killed in overturned car crash in Mesilla
A New Mexico Jersey Mike's franchise owner lost his life in a rollover accident early Saturday morning in the Town of Mesilla, as reported by the Mesilla Marshal's Office. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when deputies received a 911 call about a single vehicle crash in a park owned by the Town of Mesilla. The driver, identified as David Leyva, was found inside a white BMW near a water fountain. The Mesilla Marshals Traffic Investigators revealed that Leyva was speeding and failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times on the park's lawn. Sadly, Leyva, who was not wearing a seatbelt, succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by the Mesilla Fire Department. He was later pronounced dead by the Medical Examiner investigator and transported for further examination. Leyva, who owned Jersey Mike's restaurants in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, was reportedly visiting the Las Cruces location at the time of the tragic accident.
