Two police vehicles collided in Tennessee on Friday night in an accident during Vice President JD Vance's motorcade support, resulting in a police officer being critically injured and hospitalized, officials shared. The crash occurred in Maryville, located about 17 miles south of Knoxville, and involved a state trooper and a motorcycle officer from the Maryville Police Department, as reported by the city. A spokesperson from the Tennessee Department of Safety informed CBS News that one of the ambulances accompanying the motorcade halted immediately to offer prompt medical aid. The city of Maryville shared via social media that the officer is in critical condition, but further details were not yet provided. Maryville Police Department chief Tony Crisp requested thoughts and prayers for the injured officer, family, and medical staff. Although initial reports suggested the trooper was unhurt, it was later confirmed that both the trooper and the officer were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for assessment and care. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is overseeing the investigation into the incident, and Katherine Pierce from the U.S. Secret Service in Knoxville assured that the protectees' safety and movement were unaffected.
