Officer injured during security escort for JD Vance identified
Maryville Police Officer FTO Justin Brown was critically injured during a dignitary protection detail escort for Vice President JD Vance in Maryville on Friday evening. The incident occurred at 6:11 p.m. when Brown's police motorcycle collided with a Tennessee Highway Patrol SUV while part of the security motorcade. Brown was taken to UT Medical Center by American Medical Response and remains in critical condition with significant injuries, undergoing surgery on Saturday morning. Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp expressed gratitude to the citizens who provided immediate first aid, which proved instrumental in saving Brown's life. Crisp also thanked AMR first responders and the medical staff at the University of Tennessee for their exceptional care. The Tennessee Highway Patrol's Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the crash. Crisp urged the community to keep Officer Brown and his family in their thoughts and prayers, acknowledging the widespread support received from various agencies and individuals.
