Off-duty Milwaukee police officer involved in shooting resulting in man's death
A fatal incident occurred after a minor car crash on Milwaukee's northwest side, involving an off-duty officer and another driver, resulting in the death of the latter. The 40-year-old officer, with 21 years of service, was driving to work when the collision happened. Both drivers got out of their vehicles to assess the accident, and the other driver allegedly approached the officer with a firearm and assaulted him before gunfire was exchanged. The other driver, identified as 26-year-old Elijah Wilkes, died at the scene. The officer was injured and taken to a hospital, with video footage of the incident set to be released as part of the investigation. The officer has been placed on administrative leave, standard procedure for such cases, with the incident being investigated by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team. Family members of Wilkes expressed shock and grief over the tragedy.
