
Off-duty cop shoots, kills man following accident
A man was fatally shot by an off-duty Milwaukee police officer after a minor vehicle accident on the city's north side. The incident occurred near 47th and Mill as the officer was on his way to work. Both drivers stopped and exited their vehicles, and during the assessment of the accident, the other driver, a 26-year-old man, reportedly attacked the officer with a gun. The officer then fired back, resulting in the death of the 26-year-old man. The officer sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police Chief Jeffrey Norman expressed his disappointment in the escalation of the situation. The officer, with over 21 years of service, has been released from the hospital. The man who was shot was identified as Elijah Wilks, leading to a wave of shock and grief among his loved ones. The incident will be investigated by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team, with the police department planning to release video footage of the incident.
