NY man charged with BUI in jet ski accident injuring 2 children near John’s Pass

The incident at John's Pass involving a jet ski crash led to the hospitalization of two children. A man from New York, Daniel Patrick Grubert, is facing charges after the collision occurred on Sunday afternoon. Grubert was racing another jet ski on a rented Yamaha WaveRunner when he took his attention off his path and failed to anticipate the crash ahead, eventually jumping off his watercraft when he realized. This action resulted in his jet ski crashing into another WaveRunner operated by Walter Wodzien with two children onboard. The children were rescued from the water by the Madeira Beach Fire Department and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one child suffered severe injuries while the other's injuries were not life-threatening. Grubert, who displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on sobriety tests, has been charged with BUI causing serious bodily harm and reckless operation of a vessel.
