NTSB issues initial findings of Sacramento helicopter accident on Highway 50

Federal investigators have provided initial insights into the Sacramento helicopter crash that resulted in the tragic death of one individual. In a report by the National Transportation Safety Board released on Tuesday, it was revealed that the REACH medical helicopter had just departed from UC Davis Medical Center on Oct. 6 when the crew issued a distress call. The investigation indicated that the aircraft lost power, causing it to descend towards Highway 50. The helicopter ultimately crashed onto the freeway, resting in the eastbound lanes. A component of the main rotor blade was discovered lodged in a nearby garage roof. The helicopter had ascended to an altitude of approximately 500' prior to the accident. Unfortunately, nurse Suzie Smith, one of the passengers, succumbed to her injuries days later, while pilot Chad Millward and paramedic Margaret Davis were released from the hospital and were undergoing recovery at rehabilitation facilities, according to REACH.
