No legal action taken in fatal construction incident near Petersen Events Center
The tragic construction accident near the Petersen Events Center last spring, resulting in the death of Aleia Lopez, will not lead to any criminal charges. Lopez, a hospital staff member in Oakland, was fatally struck by a one-ton steel drum that rolled down a hill at the construction site. The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, in collaboration with Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, conducted an investigation and determined that there are no grounds for prosecution at this time. The DA's office mentioned the possibility of revisiting the decision in light of new evidence, but will not be making any further statements at this moment.
