MSU Billings cross country athlete recounts 'chaotic' events post bus accident
One cross country runner from MSU Billings shared details on Tuesday about the chaotic aftermath of a team bus accident over the weekend that resulted in six athletes being taken to hospitals in Washington state. Will Hyatt, who was in a different vehicle at the time, described the dramatic situation, mentioning that one team member, Cecily Eagleton, was driving a van which veered off the road after falling behind. Two of the injured athletes were airlifted to hospitals in Washington and Idaho. Thankfully, all hospitalized athletes have since returned home, apart from one who remains in a Spokane hospital. Hyatt highlighted that it is common for students to drive school vehicles, as was the case in this situation. He also expressed concerns regarding the response by the Washington State Patrol and the care provided to the injured athletes. The team did not compete in the meet they were traveling to, but they are still training and may participate in an upcoming event in Billings. The university is offering support to the athletes, focusing on their physical and emotional well-being. The incident has raised questions about the procedures for student drivers, but at this stage, there are no immediate plans to revise the existing policies.
