Miami college football player charged in deadly car crash

University of Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes, age 20, has been arrested following a tragic car accident in Florida on May 10 that took the lives of three individuals and left another seriously injured. The Largo Police Department reported that Hayes faces charges including three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury. The collision between a Dodge Durango and a Kia Soul occurred around 1:43 p.m. at the corner of Orange View Drive and Ridge Road. Tragically, two children in the Kia Soul, Jabari Elijah Solomon (10) and Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria (4), lost their lives, with the driver, Gail Price (78), also succumbing to injuries the following day. Fortunately, Herbert Riveria, 58, who was seated in the passenger side, survived but sustained serious injuries. The investigation revealed that Hayes was speeding recklessly and making dangerous lane changes before colliding with the Kia Soul. Hayes was found to have been driving at a highly excessive speed of 70.8 mph, accelerating to 78.9 mph in a 40 mph zone at the time of impact. It was determined that his manner of driving, including erratic lane changes and excessive speed, showed a complete disregard for traffic safety, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. Hayes turned himself in to authorities and was subsequently released on bond. The University of Miami has indefinitely suspended him from all athletic activities in light of the charges. Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
