Memorial service for 20 soldiers lost in Georgia aircraft mishap

Turkey held a somber memorial service on November 14th to honor 20 military members who tragically lost their lives in a plane crash in Georgia. The C-130 military cargo plane was en route from Ganja, Azerbaijan to Turkey when it crashed near the border in Georgia's Sighnaghi town on November 11th. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated. The victims included crew members and military personnel responsible for the maintenance of Turkish F-16 jets that had traveled to Azerbaijan for Victory Day commemorations, marking the country's military success over Armenia in the Karabakh region. Families, officials, and fellow soldiers paid their respects to the fallen members at an airbase in Ankara, where the 20 flag-draped coffins were displayed. The deceased were later transported to their hometowns for burial. As a precaution, Turkey has grounded its 18 remaining C-130 military planes pending technical inspections, as these aircraft are crucial for the country's logistical operations. An investigation team was promptly dispatched to determine the cause of the crash, with the flight data recorder and cockpit voice data recorder currently under examination in Ankara. Additionally, a Turkish firefighting plane crashed in Croatia on November 13th, claiming the life of the pilot. This tragic incident followed closely after the plane crash in Georgia.
