Medical examiner says man died in car crash before his remains were submerged for decades
The death of a man who disappeared almost 60 years ago in central Minnesota has been determined to be accidental, following the findings of a medical examiner who found no evidence of foul play. Roy Benn went missing in 1967 after leaving a supper club in a blue Buick Electra in Benton County. Recently, a fisherman spotted a submerged car in the Mississippi River, which turned out to be Benn's. The car was pulled from the water, revealing Benn's remains inside. Investigators had worked for years to locate Benn to no avail until this discovery. The Benton County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Benn's death resulted from a single motor vehicle crash with water submersion, closing the case. At the time of his disappearance, Benn was known to be carrying a substantial amount of money. Brady Loch, the fisherman who found the car, attributes the discovery to sheer luck, mentioning that if not for catching a walleye, they might have missed it.
