Man taken into custody following deadly car-pedestrian collision in Tooele
In Tooele, Utah, a man was taken into custody on Saturday night following a tragic auto-pedestrian accident, as reported by authorities. 36-year-old Bryce Tanner Fivas was arrested in Tooele County on charges of recklessly operating a vehicle resulting in serious bodily harm (a third-degree felony) and vehicle homicide (a second-degree felony). The incident took place on September 6 when a Tooele police officer was called to 2400 North Main St. in response to the accident. Fivas was found at the scene and informed officers that he suspected he had struck someone while driving north on Main St. Regrettably, the victim was found deceased on the road, and Fivas' vehicle had caught fire in the opposite lane. Another individual was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries. During their interaction with Fivas, the officer detected the smell of alcohol on his breath, observed his glossy red eyes, and noted his slurred and delayed speech. Fivas failed a field sobriety test administered by the officer, leading to his immediate arrest. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked at Tooele County Jail on the charges mentioned earlier. As of now, no additional details are available concerning the situation.
