Man from Woodside gets 11-year sentence for deadly DUI collision

A Woodside man who was found guilty of causing the deaths of two individuals in a DUI-related crash has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison. James Morton Worthington, aged 51, was driving under the influence when his vehicle veered off Highway 35 and collided with a tree, resulting in the fatalities of his two passengers. He admitted to two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, along with sentencing enhancements, in a plea deal that saw other charges dropped. Worthington was credited with 1,676 days for time served and good behavior on his 11-year prison term. During the sentencing, family members of the victims shared their impact statements. The tragic incident occurred following a meal at Alice’s Restaurant in Woodside, with Worthington subsequently losing control of his vehicle and crashing at high speed, leading to the fatal outcome.
