Man from Muskego accused of causing fatal crash, found hiding in crawlspace
A man from Muskego is facing serious charges after being accused of causing a car accident that resulted in the death of his mother and then evading authorities for several hours inside a residence. The incident was documented in a criminal complaint filed on Tuesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court. Casey Yiannackopoulos, aged 47, is charged with a series of offenses including first-degree reckless homicide, hit-and-run causing death, resisting arrest, and obstructing law enforcement. The complaint details that on Sunday around 7:14 p.m., Muskego police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hillendale Drive. A 77-year-old woman was found trapped in the passenger seat, later succumbing to her injuries at the hospital. Witnesses reported that a man, later identified as Yiannackopoulos, exited the driver’s side of the vehicle crying out for help for his mother and then fled the scene on foot. Police located him hiding inside a nearby residence, where he resisted arrest before being apprehended with the use of a K-9 unit and a taser. Waukesha County Court Commissioner Daniel Rieck, during Yiannackopoulos' initial court appearance, expressed shock at the callousness of the incident. The cash bond for Yiannackopoulos has been set at $750,000. The victim has not been named in the complaint. The community has responded in sympathy, with a memorial cross placed near the accident site.
