Lost Dog from Spencer Car Crash to be Reunited with Widowed Owner by ITD Crew

Idaho Transportation Department employees are assisting in the process of reuniting a lost dog with her owner, a few weeks after the staff initially noticed the pooch darting across Interstate 15 close to Spencer and just north of Idaho Falls. Joe and Kurt, part of the ITD Dubois shed team, were on duty near Spencer when they witnessed a small dachshund navigating through four lanes of traffic and narrowly avoiding being hit by a semi-truck. They diverted traffic and tried to catch the dog, but she disappeared into the tall grass beside the highway. Joe reached out to the Snake River Animal Shelter, which placed live traps to help locate the pup. Shelter personnel later discovered that the dachshund, named Tessa, belonged to a Canadian couple who were in a fatal accident at the end of October, where the husband unfortunately passed away. The devastated widow feared that the dog was also lost. Kim, another member of the Dubois shed team residing in Spencer, monitored the traps but didn't see any activity. However, on Monday, Joe and Kurt checked the traps during their shift and found Tessa safely captured in one of them. The dog is now preparing to be returned to her owner as she continues to mourn her husband's passing. Joe and his wife intend to meet the owner's son in Butte, Montana, to bring Tessa back home.
