Loss felt in Great Barrington after tragic motorcycle collision with moose

A devastating incident in Great Barrington resulted in the tragic loss of a 20-year-old motorcyclist after colliding with a moose on Route 7. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office reported that the accident occurred at around 10:34 p.m. last Thursday, prompting a response from Massachusetts State Police to the Route 7 southbound lane near the Great Barrington Recycling Center. Authorities found both the motorcyclist, identified as Wyeth Curtis, and the moose on the roadway following the collision. Initial investigations revealed that the moose had entered the southbound lane, leading to the fatal crash. The young man, who was fully equipped with appropriate motorcycle gear such as leather, boots, and a full helmet, unfortunately did not survive, along with the moose. Additionally, two northbound vehicles were involved in a collision related to the presence of the motorcycle on the roadway. Known as a beloved member of the community, Curtis had been a part of Great Barrington since he was 14 years old, working as the assistant manager at Berkshire Bike and Board. This unexpected tragedy has deeply impacted the community, with many expressing their grief over his untimely passing.
