Lawsuit filed against Meriwether County sheriff for deadly collision
The sheriff of Meriwether County is being sued in a civil case related to a fatal accident involving one of his deputies. Sheriff Chuck Smith is a defendant in a lawsuit for wrongful death and negligence brought by the family of Ronald Moreland, who died in a crash in April near Senoia. Allegations state that the deputy, allegedly speeding without emergency lights, collided with Moreland's vehicle during a left-hand turn. The family's lawyer accuses the deputy of reckless behavior and holds the sheriff's office accountable. FOX 5 Atlanta has requested a statement from the sheriff's office.
