Lawsuit filed against City of Everett by family of 13-year-old in fatal bike accident
The family of a 13-year-old boy who tragically passed away after coming into contact with a braided cable while riding an electric bike is filing a lawsuit against the City of Everett over the incident. The lawsuit claims that the city was aware of the cable, which was suspended between a neighbor's fence post and a traffic bollard, and yet did not take sufficient action to address the danger it posed. The accident occurred on May 2, 2025, when Emiliano Munoz rode his e-bike off 5th Avenue West onto a grassy area, where the wire was not easily visible. Sadly, Munoz sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them at Harborview Medical Center. The installation of the cable was deemed illegal, and the lawsuit underscores that the city had prior knowledge of its presence through various inspections and reports. Seeking compensation for damages, costs, and attorney fees, the family has given the city until October 14 to respond to the complaint.
