La Mesa bike collision victim identified
A man has been identified as the victim of a fatal bicycle crash on a bike path in eastern San Diego County. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as David Engler, 68, of El Cajon, who tragically died in the collision. The incident occurred when Engler collided with another bicyclist on the bike path near Lake Murray in La Mesa. Engler was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, according to police reports. The other bicyclist involved in the head-on collision suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. The medical examiner determined that Engler's death was accidental, caused by blunt force injuries. The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
