Investigation launched after fatal accident near Speedway Blvd, Nevada by State Police Highway Patrol
A tragic accident occurred on the northbound IR15 (south of mile marker 54) resulting in one fatality on Wednesday, September 17, as reported by the Nevada State Police. A 2018 Volvo semi-truck collided with a stationary 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI Hatchback around 10:16 p.m. The Volkswagen was unexpectedly stopped in the number two lane, leading to a rear-end collision by the Volvo. The impact caused the Volkswagen to hit a cable barrier on the outside shoulder, while the Volvo flipped onto its left side after crossing another cable barrier. The driver of the Volvo sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while the Volkswagen driver, identified as 31-year-old Rodbel Alejandro Virula, tragically passed away at the scene. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol's Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident, which marks the 45th fatal crash under their jurisdiction in 2025, resulting in 46 fatalities this year.
