IMP: Pursuit results in deadly collision in Johnson County
A pursuit involving the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and a suspect wanted for aggravated assault ended in a fatal crash in Johnson County. The incident occurred when a homicide detective spotted the suspect driving past a street intersection and called for backup. Attempts to stop the suspect's vehicle led to a prolonged chase on I-65 northbound, during which police tried a precision immobilization technique to halt the truck. However, despite efforts to stop the suspect, the truck veered off the road, crashed into a culvert, and caught fire, resulting in the death of the driver, identified as 30-year-old Marco Antonio Pena Morales from Chicago. The pursuit led to lane closures on I-65, but normal traffic resumed early Thursday. IMPD will investigate the pursuit to ensure compliance with department procedures, with assistance from the Johnson County Coroner's Office.
