I-470 Westbound Closed in West Virginia Due to Multi-Vehicle Accident; Two Hospitalized
A serious multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 470 westbound past Exit 1 is causing significant traffic disruptions, with the Interstate 70/Interstate 470 west split in Elm Grove also closed as emergency responders manage the situation. The incident, which involved a car and a semi-truck, left two individuals trapped but fortunately alive. Various local departments including the Wheeling fire and police departments are leading the investigation and response efforts. While one lane of I-470 eastbound is open, all other westbound traffic is being redirected onto I-70 westbound. The accident, reported at 1:30 pm, led to a complete closure of I-470 with the roadway expected to remain shut down for a prolonged period. Alternative routes are advised as crews work to clear the scene and support the injured individuals taken to the hospital.
