I-35 Crash near Guthrie Underscores Deer Collision Risks
Two Enid brothers tragically lost their lives over the weekend in a series of events on northbound I-35 near Guthrie. They hit a deer, and while checking the damage, they were struck by a semi-truck. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of deer-vehicle collisions, especially during the rut season when deer are more active. The decrease in daylight hours during this time of year also contributes to the risk, as more drivers are on the road when deer are most active at dawn and dusk. If you find yourself in a situation where you hit a deer, experts advise attempting to move to a safe location or slowly driving away. Swerving to avoid a deer is not recommended as it can lead to more severe outcomes. Deer are known to travel in groups, so caution is advised when spotting them in specific areas. A fundraiser is being organized by the Billings Volunteer Fire Department to support the families of the two brothers, featuring a spaghetti dinner donation event at the Billings Community Building on November 18 at 6:00 p.m.
