Hit-and-run crash near campus claims lives of 3 University of Arizona students
Three University of Arizona students tragically lost their lives in a hit-and-run accident in Tucson on the night of Oct. 30. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Euclid Avenue and East Second Street, where a speeding 2019 Porsche Boxter struck the victims as they were crossing the street. Two of the pedestrians, Sophia Troetel and Josiah Santos, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third, Katya Castillo Mendoza, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Nov. 1. The driver, 19-year-old Louis John Artal, fled the scene but later turned himself in to the authorities. Artal was found to be impaired and is facing charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The Tucson Police Department is continuing its investigation into this tragic incident.
