Highway 55 closed due to major accident as per MnDOT
Two women have died and a child has been injured following a carjacking incident in north Minneapolis, where a suspect fleeing the police crashed into a vehicle at a busy intersection. Chief Brian O'Hara shared in a press conference that the tragic event began with reports of a person with a gun and eventually led to a carjacking in progress. The suspect, driving recklessly in a stolen vehicle, caused chaos on the roads before ultimately crashing and attempting carjackings at gunpoint. Unfortunately, this reckless behavior resulted in a fatal collision that claimed the lives of the two women in the other vehicle. The suspect was arrested and is receiving medical treatment, and investigations are ongoing. Highway 55 is closed for now, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
