Highway 5 in Des Moines temporarily closed due to deadly pedestrian accident
The Des Moines Police Department recently shut down a section of Highway 5 following a tragic pedestrian accident early Sunday morning. Emergency responders were dispatched to the area near SW 9th Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on the highway around 3:30 a.m. Regrettably, upon arrival, they discovered an adult male pedestrian had lost his life. Fortunately, the adult male driver involved was unharmed. The police department closed the highway for approximately four hours as part of their investigation. The DMPD Traffic Unit is actively pursuing further inquiries. As of now, the identities of the victim and the driver have not been disclosed. Authorities have assured that more details will be shared as soon as they are available for dissemination.
