High school students injured in fatal weekend accident

Two teenagers are currently hospitalized following a tragic wrong-way crash in Allegan County early Sunday morning that resulted in three deaths and injured three others. The accident, which occurred near Martin Township, led to a closure of northbound US-131 for several hours as authorities carried out their investigation. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, along with two 18-year-old male passengers, tragically lost their lives in the crash. Meanwhile, three other passengers between the ages of 16 and 18 are in critical condition. According to Lt. Brandon Berens of the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the wrong-way car drove for approximately four miles in the opposite direction after making a U-turn at 129th Avenue. While attempts by law enforcement to intercept the vehicle were made, the accident could not be prevented. The devastating impact has deeply affected the local schools, with students and staff receiving support from the community as they cope with the aftermath of this tragedy. The investigation is still ongoing, with alcohol suspected to have played a role in the crash, although final conclusions are yet to be determined.
