High levels of speeding on Meridian Street spike after fatal crash at intersection
Residents in a neighborhood on the north side have expressed heightened concerns about ongoing speeding issues on Meridian Street, an issue they've witnessed for years. Recent crashes, including one where a vehicle crashed into a home's fence during a birthday party, have intensified worries. Long-term residents Megan and James Montague, who have experienced a rise in accidents since moving in, note that cars often exceed the speed limit by 15 mph. Despite efforts from neighbors, including conducting traffic studies, city responses have been limited. City-County Councilmember John Barth is collaborating with residents to address the problem, while IMPD is planning more targeted enforcement in the area. Despite concerns about potential accidents and fatalities, the city confirmed there are currently no planned changes for North Meridian Street.
