Good Samaritan recounts Gorham accident that claimed woman's life and injured 4

A fatal accident in Gorham on Monday evening resulted in the death of a Maine woman and injuries to four others. The incident took place on Brackett Road, with one vehicle plunging into a pond. Local resident Jack Riley, who witnessed the crash, saw two vehicles involved – a Honda CRV and a Dodge Grand Caravan – with one of them submerged in the pond. Riley and another bystander tried to rescue the trapped occupants, managing to save one person while emergency responders performed CPR on them. Tragically, 68-year-old Joyce Provencher did not survive her injuries, while 23-year-old Clinton Lubangula remained in serious condition. The driver of the minivan, Mohammed Obaid, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Joyce Provencher was described by her nephew as a source of joy and laughter. The elderly occupants of the Honda CRV also suffered injuries, but non-life-threatening. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and witnesses are encouraged to contact Officer Jarret Oceguera. The Gorham Police Department expressed gratitude to Riley and other individuals who assisted in the rescue efforts. Riley, in return, expressed a desire to have been able to do more to help the victims.
