Glenpool City releases Highway 67 study post fatal accident.
The 276-page Highway 67 Corridor Study was released by the City of Glenpool on the same day that a tragic five-car crash resulted in the death of a 9-year-old Glenpool student. City of Bixby, ODOT, and INCOG are also mentioned in the report. Following numerous crashes, including fatal ones, on 151st St., urgent safety measures have been a topic of concern. After the recent fatal crash involving a semi-truck trailer rollover, Glenpool city officials held a press conference, emphasizing the need for action from various agencies. The study, unveiled on September 8 but dated January 2025, details proposed short and long-term solutions based on crash data spanning a decade, with a reported 368 crashes resulting in around 112 injuries and six deaths. Notably, the report indicates that more than half of the crashes occurred during turns, underscoring the necessity for turn lanes and various interchange styles. Speed was found to significantly impact injuries and fatalities, prompting recommendations in the report for speed limit revisions, traffic light adjustments, as well as potential safety features like RCUTS and roundabouts. Additionally, the need for street lights along the 7.5-mile stretch for improved visibility, particularly during overnight hours, was highlighted. With community feedback aligning on the urgent demand for safety enhancements, it is apparent that proactive measures are essential.
