Gallatin County Sheriff discusses railway safety following fatal train-pedestrian incident.
During warm days in the Three Forks area of Montana, many people head to the water, with popular spots like the Milwaukee Fishing Access drawing visitors. Residents, like one Three Forks local who frequently commutes from Big Sky, often witness kids jumping off the bridge at the access point. Cesar Gonzalez, a traveling lineman living in Three Forks, frequents the fishing area. He was unaware of the recent tragic incident involving a young woman from Colorado who was struck and killed by a train while on the railroad tracks at the fishing access. Cesar highlighted the need for safety measures to prevent such accidents, pointing out the lack of warning signs and fences in the area. While speaking with Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer, it was noted that railroads can be more dangerous than people realize, especially in terms of the lack of visibility and sound when trains are approaching. Despite the low frequency of train accidents in Gallatin County, Springer emphasized the importance of being cautious around railroad tracks and always assuming they are active and potentially dangerous.
