Freshman baseball player at Philander Smith University dies in car accident.

Philander Smith University is deeply saddened by the passing of Taariq Conner, a first-year student and member of the Panthers baseball team. Taariq, aged 18 and hailing from Pine Bluff, was known for his dedication, positive spirit, and outstanding baseball skills. In the wake of the car accident that took his life and injured three other students, the university is seeking prayers for all those affected, including Taariq's loved ones, the injured students, and their families, as well as the coaches and teammates. Dr. Maurice D. Gipson, President and CEO, acknowledges the tragic loss and emphasizes the importance of faith and unity in this time of grief. The university is providing counseling services and support to the campus community to help navigate through this unimaginable tragedy.
