First responders in New Melle ready for mock vehicle accident training
The New Melle Fire Protection District (NMFPD) in Missouri is introducing a new training program following a series of deadly accidents in the St. Louis region. The program, set to debut next week, will focus on replicating life-saving techniques employed by the department. Using donated vehicles, the upcoming training will involve placing a Freightliner Cascadia semi truck on top of a Kia Soul. Assistant Fire Chief Joshua Ellis expressed enthusiasm about introducing this hands-on aspect of firefighting to the team. The choice of location for the exercise, in New Melle with its winding roads, was mentioned by Ellis, who highlighted the presence of heavy dump truck traffic and the need for preparedness in handling similar scenarios. Recent successful rescues by NMFPD responders have underscored the value of ongoing training and skill development beyond what textbooks can offer. Ellis emphasized the goal of building confidence and ensuring that personnel are proficient in responding to challenging situations without hesitation.
