Fatalities in Shelby Co. crash on I-57
A tragic incident occurred over the weekend near Neoga, Illinois, resulting in the death of a semi-trailer driver following a two-vehicle collision in Shelby County. The Illinois State Police were called to Interstate 57 southbound at milepost 172 where a box truck collided with a semi-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder. The semi-trailer driver, a 31-year-old man from Guanajuato, Mexico, was fatally injured in the crash. The box truck driver, a 38-year-old man from Milwaukee, WI, was not harmed and received citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid the accident. The authorities closed I-57 southbound for investigation, leading to traffic rerouting until just before 10 p.m. when the road reopened. The Shelby County Coroner is currently notifying the deceased driver's family.
