Fatal single-car crash in San Rafael; alcohol containers discovered
Early Sunday morning, a driver was tragically killed in San Rafael when their car veered off the road, rolled into a drainage ditch, and crashed. California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash on Highway 101 just south of Manual T. Freitas Parkway around 2:55 a.m. They found a 2012 Jeep Liberty overturned and partially submerged in a drainage ditch. The driver, whose identity has not been released pending notification of their family, sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Witness reports indicated the driver was speeding and crossed multiple lanes before crashing. Empty beer bottles were discovered near the vehicle. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
