Fatal pedestrian collision leads to charges for Napa woman
A 24-year-old driver in Napa was driving at twice the speed limit, fatally striking a 70-year-old man in a crosswalk early one morning on September 10th. The tragic pedestrian accident took place at the intersection of Soscol Avenue and Third Street at 5:37 a.m. The driver, identified as Eva Zuniga from Napa, was reported to be tired and driving at 40 mph in a 20 mph zone. The victim, Charles Corrigan of Napa, was walking with a shopping cart when the collision occurred. Zuniga did not attempt to brake or avoid hitting Corrigan in the crosswalk, according to investigators. Zuniga stayed at the site after the incident and a blood test revealed no presence of drugs or alcohol in her system. The primary cause of the collision was deemed to be Zuniga's excessive speed and failure to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk. Zuniga is facing charges of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, speeding, and failing to yield, and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
