Fatal pedestrian accident on Route 50 in Annapolis, according to police
A tragic car accident resulted in the death of a woman on Route 50 in Annapolis Friday morning, as confirmed by Maryland State Police. The incident occurred on the westbound Route 50 at Route 97 in Anne Arundel County at 6:15 a.m. when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while walking on the roadside. Despite immediate response from first responders, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. While it was not mentioned if charges would be brought against the driver, authorities remained present at the crash site. Recent data reveals a decline of nearly 57 percent in crash fatalities involving pedestrians in Maryland over the last four years. Unfortunately, for the year 2025, there have been 320 fatal crashes reported, of which 65 involved pedestrians. Anne Arundel County had reported 50 total crash fatalities in 2024, including 8 pedestrian fatalities. In light of recent incidents, such as hit-and-runs in Glen Burnie and Baltimore City, there is growing concern for road safety. It is evident that a significant number of fatal crashes in Maryland this year have been linked to impaired driving, emphasizing the urgent need for safety enhancements on roadways.
