
Fatal pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in Burbank
A fatal accident occurred on the 5 Freeway in Burbank on Saturday night when a pedestrian was hit and killed, leading to a significant traffic jam for other motorists passing through the area. The incident occurred shortly before 7:10 p.m. on the southbound lanes close to Verdugo Avenue, as confirmed by California Highway Patrol officers. Good Samaritans driving by stopped to assist the pedestrian, with one vehicle even positioning itself to protect the victim from oncoming traffic. Tragically, paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene, with their identity still unknown. Authorities noted that the pedestrian may have been attempting to cross the freeway at the time of the collision. The incident prompted a SigAlert at approximately 7:40 p.m., affecting the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2. All lanes were eventually reopened just before 10 p.m. SkyCal captured aerial footage of the scene, revealing long lines of traffic stretching for miles, with some vehicles being redirected via Verdugo.
