Fatal motorcycle accident in Urbana on Wednesday: Authorities
A motorcycle driver tragically lost their life following a crash that occurred in Urbana on Wednesday evening. The incident took place on Cunningham Avenue close to the entrance ramp to eastbound I-74. According to Lieutenant David Roesch of the Urbana Police Department, a semi-truck failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn, resulting in a collision with two motorcycles traveling north on Cunningham. One of the motorcyclists succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while the other sustained minor injuries, received treatment, and was subsequently released. The semi-truck driver was cited for not yielding to traffic. The Urbana Police Department, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, briefly closed Cunningham Avenue for investigation purposes. As the investigation continues, Urbana Police have refrained from releasing additional details and express gratitude to the community for their patience and support during the road closure. Warm condolences were also extended to the deceased individual's loved ones.
