Fatal head-on collision on Long Island leaves one dead and three critically injured: authorities

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning in Flanders, N.Y., resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to three others. Police responded to a head-on collision between a Chevrolet Malibu and a Honda sedan on Flanders Road near Birch Creek Road. The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles. Juan Camilo Alape Penuela, 23, the driver of the Honda, passed away in the collision. A female passenger was thrown from the car, while another woman was trapped inside with severe injuries. Both women were transported to the hospital, one by air ambulance and the other by ambulance. The Chevrolet driver also sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital. Flanders Road was closed for several hours for investigation and reopened later in the morning. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
