Fatal head-on collision on I-45 in Houston

A tragic incident occurred on Interstate 45 just north of Houston early Sunday, as a driver going the wrong way caused a head-on collision, leading to the death of the driver of the wrong-way vehicle and critical injuries to two others. The accident happened around 3 a.m. when a Toyota RAV4 was traveling south in the northbound lanes near FM 1488 and collided with a Dodge Durango. A wrecker driver, who was on the same route, witnessed the incident and immediately alerted 911 while informing the local law enforcement. The driver stated that the RAV4 was speeding at around 100 mph. Both occupants of the Durango were rescued before the vehicle caught fire and were rushed to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands in critical condition. The RAV4 driver, a woman, sadly passed away at the scene. Firefighters from South Montgomery County worked tirelessly to free her. The Texas Department of Public Safety is looking into the crash, which led to the closure of the interstate for several hours until it was reopened at 7 a.m. The names of the victims have not been disclosed by authorities.
