Fatal head-on collision near Felton claims life of 80-year-old woman
A tragic incident occurred in Santa Cruz County on Saturday morning when a woman lost her life in a head-on collision. The California Highway Patrol received a call at around 8:20 a.m. regarding a crash on State Route 9 near Brackney Road. According to the authorities, the collision involved an 80-year-old woman from Felton driving a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle northbound on the highway, colliding with a Toyota Sequoia traveling in the opposite direction. Despite efforts to save her, the driver of the Volkswagen sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. The identity of the deceased woman has not been disclosed. Thankfully, the 24-year-old woman driving the Toyota was unharmed. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated, and it is unclear at this point whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors, as per the CHP statement.
