Fatal crash shuts down I-95 south in Greensville

A fatal single-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 95 south in Greensville County, VA, causing the closure of the interstate for several hours on Saturday. The crash, which occurred at mile marker 12 around 8:50 a.m., resulted in the death of a passenger, identified as 62-year-old Rufus J. Whitaker from Washington, D.C., and serious injuries to the 54-year-old female driver also from Washington, D.C. After the Volvo SUV went off the road, overcorrected, and hit a guardrail before overturning, the southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down. Traffic was diverted onto Route 614 (Exit 13), causing significant congestion of around three miles by 1:30 p.m. The lanes were reopened and the scene cleared by 2 p.m. as per officials.
