Fatal crash on Iliff Avenue in Aurora caused by speeding driver, according to police

A tragic incident occurred in Aurora, Colorado, where a speeding driver trying to evade a traffic stop collided with and killed a victim in a vehicle. The Aurora Police Department reported that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. A motorcycle officer from APD's Traffic Investigations Unit was conducting speed enforcement on northbound I-225 near Yale when he noticed a white BMW traveling at 84 mph in a 65 mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the BMW for speeding, but the driver failed to comply. The BMW driver drove recklessly, eventually causing a fatal collision with a red Honda Civic at the intersection of Iliff and Blackhawk Street. Unfortunately, the driver of the Honda Civic, a young man in his 20s, lost his life in the crash. The BMW's driver and passenger were taken into custody by the motorcycle officer without any issues and have been cooperative. Currently, eastbound Iliff is closed at I-225, and westbound Iliff is closed at Sable Boulevard. Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area, suggesting alternative routes such as Jewell or Yale. This story is still developing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
