Fatal crash on I-90 in Missoula claims two lives

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic head-on accident on Interstate 90 in Missoula on Saturday evening after one of the drivers was going in the wrong direction. The collision occurred around 10:36 p.m. when a car going east in the westbound lanes crashed head-on with a vehicle traveling in the correct direction in the left lane, as reported by the Montana Highway Patrol. The young man driving the wrong way in a Hyundai Veloster and the woman in a Mazda 6 from Arlee died at the scene. The Mazda ended up on the north shoulder after spinning counterclockwise, while the Hyundai flipped in the median, resulting in the driver being ejected since he was not wearing a seat belt. Sadly, the vehicle caught fire and was completely engulfed. Authorities suspect alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision, and westbound traffic was redirected for about three hours until 2:00 a.m., under the direction of the Missoula County Sheriff's Office.
