Fatal crash on I-85 leaves one dead and nine injured
The Anderson County Coroner's Office arrived at a fatal collision on I-85 Saturday morning. A four-car accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 37, leading to all lanes being closed as of 8 a.m. The Coroner reported that nine individuals were transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Tragically, a 23-year-old passenger named Ellison Flores-Hernandez from Duncan lost his life in the accident. The driver of the vehicle he was in lost control, resulting in the crash. Unfortunately, Ellison was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle, succumbing to severe injuries from blunt force trauma. His death has been deemed accidental. The incident is currently being investigated by the Anderson County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Powdersville Fire Department, Wren Fire Department, Medshore Ambulance Service, and Anderson County EMS.
